Turtle Island was photographed on a quiet river in Maine during peak autumn, the morning after a storm passed through. The air was still. The water was glass. While kayaking slowly downstream, I crossed paths with a solitary painted turtle resting on a partially submerged log. We drifted past one another without urgency. Two lives sharing the same moment, acknowledging each other, then continuing on.
